TradeLog secures trade history

Secure Trade History Aggregation

Introducing TradeLog’s
Next Generation BrokerConnect

Powered by

Aggregating your trade history can be challenging.

At the heart of TradeLog lies the ability to import trade history from multiple brokers and aggregate that data in a consistent format. Using this Trade-Log, traders can analyze their trading performance across all accounts, make notes as part of their trade journals, and generate accurate IRS-ready tax reporting.

For nearly 25 years, TradeLog has supported importing trade history from as many brokers as possible, with plenty of challenges along the way.

Brokers vary greatly in their trade history, be it…

  • Extent of available history
  • Different ticker symbology
  • How short sales are reported
  • Whether commissions/fees are segregated
  • If timestamps are included
  • Decimal places and rounding
  • Format of files … and the list goes on.

In the late 2000s, BrokerConnect was introduced, enabling a more automated import from popular brokers. In the “old days,” this was done with a simple web interface prompting users to log in to their brokerage accounts. TradeLog would then automate navigation and download the needed trade history report, or screen scrape. Added layers of security on brokerage sites now prevent these methods – and rightly so! In the age of cybersecurity, secure APIs using OAuth standards are the norm for accessing private information.

In recent years, efforts have been made to partner with third-party aggregation services to help securely retrieve trade history. This too has been challenging as most financial data aggregators don’t specialize in trading/investment history, so the results were found to be lackluster. Many TradeLog BrokerConnect interfaces have been problematic or since disabled.

Yet, we haven’t given up! We know how beneficial BrokerConnect can be for quickly updating TradeLog history and providing the needed tools for traders like you, all year long.

We are happy to announce our partnership with SnapTrade to empower our next generation of BrokerConnect.

Over the past months, TradeLog’s developers have been working hard to connect TradeLog with SnapTrade, and in turn, allow users to securely connect to their brokers with ease. Most of this work has been “under the hood,” but now we are beginning to bring BrokerConnect back online with some of our currently supported brokers – and some new ones too!

TradeLog BrokerConnect with SnapTrade provides the highest standards for data security. You can click here to read more about how SnapTrade ensures a safe connection to your broker.

Here’s how it works:

  • When you enable BrokerConnect for a broker account in TradeLog, you’ll be directed to SnapTrade to authorize the secure connection to your data.
  • Once connected through SnapTrade, TradeLog can access historical trade transaction information during the import process.
  • TradeLog will NOT be able to access your account, execute trades, transfer funds, or access private information like your social security number.
  • Any trade history retrieved will be passed into your TradeLog file – which is stored on your personal device and can only be accessed with your TradeLog credentials. You can click here to learn how TradeLog uses and secures your private information.

What to expect next.

Over the coming months, we will be rolling out BrokerConnect support for various brokers. We are careful not to move too fast – because we’ve been doing this a long time and know the risks. As each broker is connected we strive to test and analyze the trade history being received. We want to make sure nothing is missing and it’s formatted correctly.

You can sign-up for early access and be the first to know when the new BrokerConnect is available for your broker(s). Initially, this will be in the TradeLog Beta version, available to users with an active TradeLog subscription. Once the beta is available, we’ll send you instructions to access and follow-up to confirm your results. We’ll also tell you how to get help if you encounter problems.

We’ll make announcements when a new BrokerConnect is fully available to all TradeLog users. On our Supported Brokers List you can see which brokers have BrokerConnect available by looking for this symbol:

We hope the new BrokerConnect powered by SnapTrade will help traders like you benefit from aggregated trade history. Keeping TradeLog up-to-date throughout the year empowers you with tools like our Potential Wash Sales Report, our Performance Report, charts, and more – allowing you to take control of your taxes and your trading!
